at the movies
Payment for the pre-movie ad is on its way, along with the artwork. We didn’t raise enough beyond our goal to add a good theatre in another city, so we’re going to roll that over to a second run. Yes, a second run, this time with a video ad, scheduled to target the release of “The Road” in October. We’ll post more details about that later, but until then, take a look at what will be hitting theatre screens at The Grove (Los Angeles, California), The Muvico Rosemont 18 (Rosemont, Illinois – near Chicago) and the Clearview Cinemas at First & 62nd Cinemas (New York, New York)

It tells to buy DVD, not to bring TSCC back. It is suitable as a WB promotion to get more profits from DVDs, not as “Save the SCC” campaign
I do not like this ad at all. It should say “Bring the SCC back!”.

The best way to bring back the show – in any form – is through good DVD sales. Maybe that sucks, but it’s true. We have to demonstrate to the WB that there’s a good, strong market here for more TSCC, and great DVD sales do that in a language they understand.
You have to remember that this ad is being seen by the general public. A lot of them might not know what TSCC is. Our goal here is to make them aware of that, to interest them in the series. Telling them it’s cancelled? Probably won’t help us so much as it will discourage them from starting a series that’s already ‘over’.

Why do you think it is the best way? Why are you so sure? To me it looks like a hidden WB way to boost sales, nothing else

You’re right, it is about boosting sales. That’s all everything is about. Money. We love the show, but to the WB it’s just a business. The point of the movie ad is not to be directed at the WB. It’s not to be directed at anyone that has control of the show. It is directed at the general public. And telling the public to “bring Sarah Connor Chronicles back” doesn’t make much sense. They would think to themselves, “Bring it back? how? Why? Where did it go?” We just want the general public to know it’s out on DVD, that it’s a great show, and they should buy it. That’s the point of THIS campaign.
The Billboard campaign was more “bring it back” and that is directed at the WB.

The mobile billboard is the message to WB to bring it back. But the purpose of the movie theater ad has always been to promote season 2 Blu-ray and DVD. Hollywood is a business and if WB doesn’t see that TSCC is a money maker, they have no incentive to bring it back. This is why we’re working both angles — fan desire *and* sales. WB needs to know there are fans out here that aren’t going away that want it back and they need to see it as *profitable*.

I think as well that its a mistake, that there is no mention about “Bring TSCC back” or something. People should know, what is purpose of this campaign…of all of this. It Wouldn’t cost anything to mention it there

We tried it out, but ultimately decided that it would be better for the audience members who aren’t familiar with the show to not be told right off about its cancellation. It’s just as important to make new fans as it is to inform existing ones about what we’re doing. Besides which, the URL is kind of a giveaway.
Yes, the purpose of our campaign is to bring back the show. But HOW. This is what’s important here. It’s not enough to just toot your own horn…you have to communicate and your message has to help your cause, not just inform about it.
[Reply]
Absolutely. The best message to current as well as new potential fans of the show is that tscc is awesome. Buying the dvds/blu-rays is the best thing we can do right now to bring it back in whatever form it would exist. A message of positivity is better especially for potential new fans. The website address will explain the rest. Hang in there baby!

Looks very sharp…well done.
What’s the Giveaway? Are there spiffy prizes to be won? Ohhhh….how exciting!

I have flat out been told by friends they don’t wanna get hooked on anymore canceled series by me (they still hate for Carnivale). I’m personally glad the advert isn’t cluttered up by Bring It Back! proclamations. Especially when “Save The SCC” is already on the screen dudes. The less on the screen, the more likely it is to all get read. They’ll buy the DVD on the prospect of free stuff, they’ll visit the site afterward, then they’ll see the message. You gonna enter a giveaway on a site without looking over it? They’ll find out it’s canceled after the DVDs are already in their home and they’re already hooked.

Totally agree with you on this. Keep it positive.
If we talk about cancellation, some people immediately tune out because “if it was cancelled, it must not have been very good.” Losing teams don’t often sell out stadiums. Fans don’t want to bother. The same applies here.
Really like how you incorporated the runner-up billboard design. It works great in this context! The animated TDE bubble is awsome.

I didn’t mean fans. I meant *people* as in the general population. Too bad there’s no edit button on comments!

I like it, as the above posters have said, the url explains alot… And look at those major cities, Los Angeles, New York and Chicago, thats awesome!

Any reason why it doesn’t say “Terminator” anywhere?

The same reason it doesn’t say Terminator on the billboard. Sometimes the word “Terminator” can give the show a bad connotation just as much – perhaps more – than a positive one. We don’t want people seeing the word “Terminator” think of the movies and then zone out of what our message is.

It’s beautiful; love it. It says exactly what it needs to say. It’s the SALES of the dvds that will convince the powers that be – nothing more, nothing less. An increase in interest in the show from the general public – and consequently, greater demand for more of it – is crucial to this. Well done, guys. I commend you for considering all angles.

This…is pretty much amazing, and major cities too. Hell yea!

Simple, straight to the point, visually flawless… a winner!

Fantastic.
We will have our way with this. The only question is whether the studio’s are going to co-operate or be destroyed by denying us our due.

Amazing, amazing!
From a communications standpoint, though, I would try and focus on one or two messages and make clear that this is not regular commercial advertising but a fan effort. The typographic design HAS to be cleaned up! Is it possible to redo it and maybe add animated text and sound effects? It’s only 10 seconds and people usually don’t want to watch ads, so there is a need for some appealing, easy readable design.

Due to time constraints and other considerations, the design for the ad had to be done entirely ‘in house’ so to speak and cannot be redone at this point. You will notice that there is animated text and as this is a slide ad, NOT a video ad, sound effects are not possible. We think the message is pretty clear, as is the fact that it’s a fan effort. We’re sorry that you don’t find the design appealing, but the deadline for the design was so very close to when we successfully raised the funds, we are unable to make any changes.

Just a heads-up: The Road has been pushed back to Thanksgiving.

Thanks for that. We’re already reassessing the plan for October, but we appreciate the nudge.

I am persuaded by your argument. That we need to sell the dvd’s, whether we like it or not. I am happy to have donated.
And, thank you for putting it together.

I like the ad. Good work. The animated electical bolt around the bubble is eye catching.
Kudos to Savetscc for finding a medium and tie-in to reach audience open to our message.
Again this is nice. Please Digg the article.

I think terminator should come back for season 3 I’m getting tired of the good shows getting cancel so quick give the show a chance first before you cancel it.
[Reply]
I’ve only just become aware of this campaign over here in England purely by chance as I Googled the words: ‘when is Terminator TSCC series 3 starting?’ as I’ve been waiting for bloody ages!!
Now I know that it has definitely been cancelled and I’m gutted –
Lads and ladies – I am jumping on the bandwagon! I’ve started a ‘Twitition’ on Twitter and joined the Facebook campaign and will do what I can to raise awareness more here. I’ve clearly been out of touch with all this so feel free to contact me to fill me in.
BTW. The Ad campaign is spot on – sell more dvd’s = get more fans…sneak in an easy to remember URL and when the new fans find out that Series 2 is all there is, they’ll be baying for blood too!!
Best of luck to everyone – I can’t wait to see the gorgeous Summer Glau on screen in this show again!! But ultimately, we all need to see a Season 3 in production – the show deserves it, the writers deserve it, the cast deserves, WE deserve it. Tally ho then chaps!! onwards and upwards and all that malarky!

It’s a shame that this series has not yet been brought back.
Pure quality.
